Parliament and Political Parties Caught up in Cyber-Attack

The PM has confirmed that Australia’s Parliament and the several political parties have been hacked by a ‘major state actor’ in an online attack 10 days ago.

Scott Morrison told parliament today that the cyber-attack was ‘unprecedented in its level of sophistication’, and its unknown what information was taken from the parties. The government has confirmed that the electoral system was not targeted.

Fingers will naturally be pointing in many directions as to who was responsible for the intrusion and the Government wont indicate publicly who was responsible. Countries include Russia, the United States and Israel. China is the major suspect considering it hacked the parliamentary systems in 2011.
